Chocolate on Bread
My alone time in the apartment was short lived as Alec and Ludovic would not go to sleep until midnight or later. Ah too bad. Alec will sleep at Ludo's Tuesday and Saturday evenings. The children have Wednesdays off from school but go to school on Saturday mornings. Every day at 11.30 Rachel picks up the children from school and feeds them their noon day meal, no sandwiches here. At 1.30 they return to school until 4:30 for a snack and then Rachel prepares the evening meal which we eat around 7:30. I am getting an inside view of family life and it is not the romantic notion of walking around the streets of Paris munching on a baguette.
And as for ironing, some women spend three to four hours a week ironing, both clothes and bed sheets. The French do not have the wrinkle free material here that we have and so ironing seems to be a necessity. Mind you Rachel's German ironing board looks like a space rocket about to take off; press a button and the ironing board cloth balloons so as to decrease wrinkle potential.
The children just returned from school and Yaelle is now preparing her snack; butter on bread with chocolate on top of the butter. I hope Alec doesn't see this one. Oh too late, Alec just ran upstairs grinning from ear to ear saying, "look mom, a chocolate sandwich." Ah, when in France.
